Meet our team of professionals, based in Columbia and Kirksville, Missouri:
Owner and Partner
David Bethel is the founder of Financial Planners of Missouri. Working closely with clients, his mission is to bring value to their lives, whether that is helping them minimize taxes, make better decisions regarding their Social Security benefits, or obtaining a better risk-adjusted return on their investments. He enjoys building relationships with his clients, getting to know them on a personal level and guiding them toward their goals.
Prior to entering the financial services industry, David worked in the education field. He spent 15 years as a superintendent, principal, and mathematics teacher in multiple Missouri public schools, followed by 16 years as an Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and faculty member at Truman State University. Combining his passion for helping others with his knowledge of finance, he became a financial advisor and founded Financial Planners of Missouri more than a decade ago. His background in education helps him offer clients easy-to-understand advice regarding complex financial strategies.
An Investment Advisor Representative with Cambridge Investment Research, David holds FINRA Series 6, 63, and 65 securities registrations, as well as life, accident, and health insurance licenses in Missouri. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Education from Truman State University, and his Doctor of Education from the University of Missouri. He is a member of the Emeritus Faculty at Truman State University, is a former Board Member of Ameritime, Inc., and a member of Social Investment Forum.
David is married with three children. An avid sports fan, he enjoys playing golf, and watching Mizzou football and basketball, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Active in his church, has recently served as a Moderator.
Adam Bethel is an owner and partner with Financial Planners of Missouri, assisting clients in the Columbia office with their many financial concerns. Offering a wide array of services, he helps them make important distinctions regarding their current financial picture and understand the many elements of their finances and opportunities. His goal is to help them take an active role in their financial strategies and feel confident with their decision making. He enjoys building long-lasting relationships with clients, helping them improve their financial lives.
Adam holds FINRA Series 6, 7, 63, and 65 securities registrations, as well as life and health insurance licenses. He is a licensed advisor in Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, and Florida. He received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from Culver-Stockton College.
Outside of the office, Adam spends much of his time with his wife and their three young children, as well as their friends and extended family. In his free time, he enjoys reading, playing basketball and golf, and traveling.
Investment Advisor Representative
As a junior financial advisor, Ashton handles a number of the Kirksville office’s day-to-day tasks, including welcoming people when they enter the office; communicating with and assisting clients; and managing paperwork, files, and records. She is also involved in the implementation of various strategies for clients and participates in meetings at the Kirksville office. She enjoys playing a role in helping clients pursue their financial goals.
Ashton received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Truman State University. She holds life insurance licenses in Missouri and Florida; accident and health insurance licenses in Missouri; long-term care certification in Missouri; and FINRA Series 7 and 66 securities licenses.
Outside of the office, Ashton enjoys spending time with family and friends, volunteering at the local community theatre, reading, and writing.
Cindy Meador is the Administrative Assistant, maintaining the front office of Columbia, answering phone calls, scheduling client appointments, and filing paperwork. She is often the first person clients speak with on the phone and meet in the office, and enjoys greeting them and welcoming them into the Columbia office.
Prior to joining the Financial Planners of Missouri team, she worked for a transfer agent, processing paperwork, and attended the University of Missouri. Outside of the office, she loves to cook for her family and play with her Golden Retriever, Buzz.
Kenzi began working for Financial Planners of Missouri in the Columbia office in May of 2018. Her main focus points include creating efficiency for the company and working to improve our overall operation systems. Kenzi works with the advisors to finish paperwork and follow through with investment companies.
Kenzi received a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and a Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages with an emphasis in Spanish. She also graduated with minors in Business, Chinese, and Psychology, and a certificate in Multicultural Studies from the University of Missouri. She continues to pursue her education, taking a few credits each year. She is also a member of the Missouri National Guard as a healthcare specialist.
When away from the office, Kenzi enjoys reading and spending time with her two dogs and one kitten. She spends most of her time working on her home or having family and friends over for dinner.
Nick is an Intern at Financial Planners of Missouri in the Columbia office and is working on becoming a certified advisor. He currently attends the University of Missouri studying Finance and Economics and expects to graduate in Spring of 2019. Nick has quickly developed great relationships with clients and looks forward to assisting them with short and long-term financial goals.
